Welcome to Year One.
In Year One we use a continuous provision approach to learning. This means that the whole curriculum is available through carefully planned activities and selected resources that children can use to master the National Curriculum.
Children take part in daily English, Maths and Phonics whole class sessions. Then, they complete their learning tasks across the week through the classroom areas. All other subjects, including Computing, Science, Art and DT, RE, Learning for Life, History and Geography are taught in whole class carpet inputs and then accessed through provision, allowing children to spend longer exploring the learning and return to it to challenge themselves and consolidate knowledge further. The children are asked to ‘Choose their Learning’ and complete ‘must do’ tasks for each area taught across the week.
We use the local field and woodland to enhance our learning, particularly in Science and Geography.
Phonics is taught using the Essential Letters and Sounds Scheme and reading books are carefully matched to this.
