Here follows a list of ways in which we communicate information in order to keep parents well informed about school life.
We strongly advise all our parents to sign up to this service.
This is our main way of communicating all events, activities, updates and photographs/videos with parents. You will be able to keep up to date with class and whole school related dates, information and current learning. You can also send and receive private messages to and from the school. If you use the mobile phone app you can receive notifications of new messages/updates. If you want to use the Class Dojo website you can receive an email whenever there is a new message/update for you/your child.
If you are not yet signed up please ask your child’s teacher to send you an invitation.
The school office will send text reminders to parents about events that are happening and for more urgent communication. If there is a last minute change this will be how we communicate it to our parents.
Face To Face
A friendly welcoming face will always greet you each morning as you arrive at school. A member of staff will be at the classroom door once the entrance door has opened at 8.45am. Similarly Mrs Sheriff or Ms Hall greet our Year R parents and children each morning. If you have some quick information to pass on in the morning these members of staff will assist. The friendly and accommodating office staff: Miss Lamnea or Mrs Wright are also available to assist with queries. If you wish to see your child’s class teacher or Mrs Washer please make an appointment at the office. We will try to accommodate as soon as possible. Mrs Washer is always out and about in the morning, we are all very approachable so please feel free to talk to us.
The school newsletter will be issued each half term and provides information about recent events, arrangements, interesting community news as well as a message from Mrs Washer. It is very important that you read the newsletter so you keep up with what is happening at the school, as things move very quickly at Wood Street. Paper copies will be sent home in book bags and uploaded to the school website.
The yearly calendar is found on our website which provides an overview of the year ahead. We do send out a printed version of the calendar at the start of each term, however, if we need to make changes to any of the events we will update the website calendar as well as sending out a message on Class Dojo or by text. Please always check the website calendar for the latest information. You can link the school calendar to your personal calendar by following the instructions on the calendar page.
Tea with the Head Teacher
This is an opportunity to discuss current educational and school issues, rather than individual children, over a cup of tea. Some meetings may have a theme. If you would like to attend please check upcoming meetings and give your name to the office.
Parent Consultation Evenings
We organise termly parent meetings whereby each parent has an individual appointment to discuss your child’s progress.
Informal Open Evenings
The first Tuesday of every month will be a chance to come into your child's class, chat to their teacher and see their books. This is a very informal session from 3 - 3.30pm.
End of Year School Reports
School reports are quite comprehensive and detail what your child has achieved and inform you of their next steps.
If you need to give anything to the school office; forms, payments, letters, please use the secure post box in the playground. Please note that any payments made to the school need to be the exact amount and should be in a sealed envelope with the child’s name on. We do not keep money in the school office so we are unable to give change.
We’re pleased to announce that Wood Street Infant School has introduced a new, more efficient and secure system for reporting your child’s absence due to illness, called Studybugs.
If you haven’t already, please get the free Studybugs app, or register on the Studybugs website, and use it to tell us whenever your child’s ill and unable to attend school.

Top 3 reasons to use Studybugs
1. It’s integrated with our systems so we know right away if your child is unaccounted for.
2. It’s quick and easy to register and use and automatically reminds you to keep us posted.
3. You’ll be helping the NHS and other public health organisations improve children’s health. (https://studybugs.com/about/schools)
