Communication

Here follows a list of ways in which we communicate information in order to keep parents well informed about school life.

Class Dojo

We strongly advise all our parents to sign up to this service.

This is our main way of communicating all events, activities, updates and photographs/videos with parents. You will be able to keep up to date with class and whole school related dates, information and current learning. You can also send and receive private messages to and from the school. If you use the mobile phone app you can receive notifications of new messages/updates. If you want to use the Class Dojo website you can receive an email whenever there is a new message/update for you/your child.

If you are not yet signed up please ask your child’s teacher to send you an invitation. Please note, we use the free version of the app. Parents are not expected to pay for this service.

Text Messaging

The school office will send text messages to parents if there is an urgent message that needs to get to everyone.

Face To Face

A friendly welcoming face will always greet you each morning as you arrive at school. A member of staff will be at the classroom door once the entrance door has opened at 8.40am. If you have some quick information to pass on in the morning these members of staff will assist. The friendly and accommodating office staff, are also available to assist with queries. If you wish to see your child’s class teacher or Miss Potter please make an appointment at the office. We will try to accommodate as soon as possible. Miss Potter is always out and about in the morning, we are all very approachable so please feel free to talk to us.

News Blasts

The school News Blast will be issued each week and provides information about what the children have been up to throughout the week, upcoming events and key dates, safeguarding and e-safety updates and interesting community news. It is very important that you read the News Blast so you keep up with what is happening at the school, as things move very quickly at Wood Street.

Calendar

The yearly calendar is found on our website which provides an overview of the year ahead. We do send out a printed version of the calendar at the start of each term, however, if we need to make changes to any of the events we will update the website calendar as well as sending out a message on ClassDojo or by text. Please always check the website calendar for the latest information. You can link the school calendar to your personal calendar by following the instructions on the calendar page.

Parent Consultation Evenings

We organise termly parent meetings whereby each parent has an individual appointment to discuss your child’s progress.

End of Year School Reports

School reports are quite comprehensive and detail what your child has achieved and inform you of their next steps.

Reporting Illness

We’re pleased to announce that Wood Street Infant School has introduced a new, more efficient and secure system for reporting your child’s absence due to illness, called Studybugs.

If you haven’t already, please get the free Studybugs app, or register on the Studybugs website, and use it to tell us whenever your child is ill and unable to attend school.

On the first day of absence, if the absence is not reported on Studybugs and/or no telephone call is received from the parent/carer, the school will endeavour to contact them that day. If there is no response, the school will endeavour to contact all other contacts held on file

Get the app or register now (https://studybugs.com/about/parents)

Top 3 reasons to use Studybugs
1. It is integrated with our systems so we know right away if your child is unaccounted for.
2. It is quick and easy to register and use and automatically reminds you to keep us posted.
3. You will be helping the NHS and other public health organisations improve children’s health. (https://studybugs.com/about/schools)
