Key Stage One

The philosophy in EYFS flows smoothly into KS1 with continued emphasis on quality independent learning where children have access to a wonderful construction area, inspiring reading areas, small world imaginative play meshed with discovery learning and investigative challenges.

All the subjects of the KS1 national curriculum and RE are taught in Years 1 and 2. The curriculum is carefully organised into predictable interest topics which motivate and inspire children of this age. Subjects are taught in a meaningful and relevant way to provide a seamless coat of learning providing a broad and balanced curriculum.  Children have the opportunity to work outdoors in our grounds to extend and enrich learning and have regular access to our fabulous, covered outdoor learning area. We also have a fabulous wooded area and pond within a  short walking distance of the school.

Each class has a teacher and a full time teaching assistant. The headteacher and learning support assistant also support the learning for specific groups of children. We aim to personalise the learning matched to the different abilities and interests of our children.

We offer a wide range of extra curricular activities to develop children interests, new skills, confidence and a passion for learning.

In essence, we are seeking to provide a curriculum that is rigorous in the basic skills but also creative and challenging. Clearly our standards at the end of KS1 remain high year on year, for all our groups of learners, which demonstrates that our creative and hands on approach most definitely supports real learning.  For more information please see the class pages.
