  • WOOD STREET INFANT SCHOOL IS TOP OF THE CLASS FOR LEARNING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

    Wed 17 Jul 2019

Wood Street Infant School in Guildford has shown itself to be at the top of the class for providing meaningful learning outside the classroom (LOtC) experiences to all of its pupils by being the first Guildford school to be awarded LOtC Mark (Gold) accreditation.

Awarded by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOtC), LOtC Mark Gold recognises exemplary LOtC provision in schools and indicates that a school is a leader in ensuring that all pupils have access to frequent, continuous and progressive learning outside the classroom to support their learning and achievement.

Wood Street Infants celebrated the achievement of this award with a morning of fun and festivities.  Familes were invited to spend the morning exploring activities such as cooking with TT from Eat Ngo, whittling with Guildford Playrangers, scaling a huge climbing wall with Surrey Outdoor Learing and Development and petting Supernoodle the visiting Unicorn!

Learning outside the classroom is known to contribute significantly to raising standards & improving pupils’ personal, social & emotional development. It also contributes to the quality and depth of learning (OFSTED, Learning Outside the Classroom - How far should you go? 2008).  Kim Somerville, Chief Executive of the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom said:

“Learning outside the classroom provides the most memorable experiences in a child’s school life. LOtC Mark Gold demonstrates that genuinely valuable learning outside the classroom experiences are a part of the everyday life of the school, and are available to all of their children and young people.  Learning outside the classroom has many proven educational benefits. LOtC Mark (Gold) will support schools in building on their LOtC provision, and on working in partnership with other schools thereby ensuring that many more young people have memorable, exciting and valuable learning outside the classroom experiences. I congratulate Wood Street Infants on being awarded LOtC Mark Gold.”

  • Rocket Fund

    Fri 01 Mar 2019 Year 2

Year 2 are working really hard this year to raise money for our trip to London in the summer. So far we have raised £293 towards the cost of trip by holding the chocolate sale and organising an Afternoon Tea for our parents.

To help us raise even more money, we have created a Rocket Fund page. This is a crowd funding site specifically for schools. Our link has gone live today and we have a month to see how much money we can raise.

Year 2 are kindly asking that you share this link as widely as possible so we can try to get as many donations as possible (you are of course welcome to donate yourselves).

    Thank you for your help
    From Year 2.

  • Flagship Muddy Puddle School

    Tue 26 Feb 2019

We are very excited to have the opportunity to work with the team at The Muddy Puddle Teacher.  As a flagship school we host a number of training sessions and offer ideas, support and guidance in getting outside and teaching alongside the Muddy Puddle team.

Our flagship status came about after a visit from 'Chief Muddy Puddler' Sarah Seaman.  She said:

'Some schools just stand out to us and this school was one of them.  Their outdoor spaces are amazing, innovative, engaging and their efforts to connect children with nature and bring the outdoors indoors impressed us immensely.'

  • Grow, Cook, Eat

    Tue 10 Jul 2018
Today Year 2 harvested some of the veggies from our garden to make a stir fry, they used curly kale, carrots, french beans, rainbow chard and cavolo nero. They looked at the new Eatwell Plate display to make sure the meal they were planning was healthy and balanced. They quickly spotted that a protein and a carbohydrate were needed so added eggs and noodles. The noodles went down a storm and EVERYONE ate them. The recipe for these yummy noodles along with lots of other school favourites will be in the Cookery Book Year 2 are working on this week - more information to follow soon.
